John Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, 3rd Baron Acton

John Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, 3rd Baron Acton CMG MBE TD DL ( December 15, 1907 , † January 23, 1989 ) was a British peer and politician.

life and career

He was the eldest son of Richard Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, 2nd Baron Acton and his wife Dorothy Lyon. He was educated at Downside School in Bath , the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Trinity College of the University of Oxford .

When his father died on June 16, 1924, he inherited his title of nobility, including the associated seat in the House of Lords .

He served in the Royal Artillery ( Territorial Army) and achieved the rank of major. He fought in World War II and was awarded the Territorial Decoration (TD). In 1945 he was accepted as a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), 1964 as Companion to the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG), he also served as Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Shropshire .

Marriage and offspring

He married Daphne Strutt, daughter of Robert Strutt, 4th Baron Rayleigh , on November 25, 1931 . They had 11 children together:
