Richard Mabuza

Richard Mabuza (born March 3, 1946 ) is a former Swaziland long-distance runner .

Life

Mabuza took part in two competitions in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , Germany: In the 10,000-meter run , he did not reach the finish line in the semifinals, while he finished the marathon in seventeenth place after 2: 20: 39.6 hours. He was also honored to appear as the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of a Swaziland team's first participation in the Olympic Games.

Mabuza set his personal best on the 10-kilometer distance in 1974 in 30: 08.6 minutes. At the British Commonwealth Games in 1974 in Christchurch , New Zealand , the Swazilan ran the national record on this track that is still valid today in 2: 12: 54.4 hours. The bronze medal in third place meant the Swaziland's first precious metal in the history of the Games.

At the Pan-African Games in 1978 , Mabuza won the gold medal in the marathon in Algerian Algiers in 2:21:53 hours and with a 75-second lead over the Ethiopian Dereje Nedi .
