Richard Martin (politician)

Richard Martin (born April 14, 1876 in Witten ; † December 19, 1951 there ) was a German politician ( DNVP ).

Life

Richard Martin was born the son of a tailor. After graduating from primary school in Witten, he learned tailoring from 1890 and then worked in his father's business until 1907. He also attended the advanced training school in Witten and took economic training courses in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne (1905) and in Hanover (1907). In September 1907 he took over the management of the Evangelical People's Office in Hagen . In addition, from December 1907 he was general secretary of the Rhenish-Westphalian Association of Protestant Workers' Associations. He also worked as an editor for the Evangelical Workers' Messenger and contributed to various magazines. Martin was active in the Protestant church and was presbyter of the Protestant parish in Witten, member of the Westphalian provincial synod, member of the general synod, member of the German-Evangelical Church Congress and deputy member of the church committee . From 1913 he was a member of the Cinematographers Commission of the Provincial Parliament.

After the November Revolution, Martin joined the DNVP. He was elected chairman of DNVP Groß-Witten and was also chairman of the German national workers' union for Westphalia-South. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian State Constitutional Assembly . He was then elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he was a member until 1933.

In 1948 and again in 1949 he was elected deputy chairman of the DRP Westphalia. He ran for this party in 1949 in vain for the German Bundestag .
