Richard Oetzel

Richard Oetzel (born July 12, 1901 in Annen ; † March 9, 1985 in Witten ) was a German engineer , entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Oetzel, who was Protestant , was born the son of a carpenter. After graduating from elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a craftsman and, from 1919, attended the state building trade school in Holzminden , which he graduated as a civil engineer in 1922. In the following years he worked as a technical manager in his father's carpentry and joinery. In 1931 he passed the exam as a carpenter. In 1940 he took over his father's business, which was completely destroyed in a bombing during the Second World War .

After the end of the war, Oetzel devoted himself to rebuilding his company. He had been a district master craftsman in Witten since 1945 , was also active in craft organizations and was, among other things, chief master of the building trade guild.

Political party

Oetzel had joined the Young German Order in 1922 . He joined the CDU in 1946 and was elected to the state executive committee of the CDU Westphalia . In addition, he was chairman of the state working group for medium-sized companies in Westphalia and deputy chairman of the federal working group for medium-sized companies of the Christian Democrats.

MP

Oetzel was a council member of the city of Witten from 1946 to 1961 and from 1967 to 1970. Here he was chairman of the building committee and craft committee. He was a member of the German Bundestag from January 24, 1953, when he replaced the retired MP Friedrich Holzapfel , until 1965. In all electoral terms he entered parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Public offices

Oetzel was Deputy Mayor of the City of Witten from 1956 to 1961.
