Richard Otto Voigt

Richard Otto Voigt (born July 29, 1895 in Leipzig ; † June 23, 1971 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist. He was a well-known representative of late expressionism in Leipzig.

Life

Richard Otto Voigt was born in Leipzig in 1895 as the son of a wood sculptor. From 1912 to 1914 Voigt studied as an evening schoolboy at the Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig, then in 1914 and 1915 as a day school student with a scholarship. From 1915 to 1918 he was called up for military service. In 1919 he became Hans Soltmann's assistant at the Leipzig Academy. In 1925 the Leipziger Kunstverein granted him his first major exhibition. From 1931 to 1939 he was then a lecturer at the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Industry. From 1939 to 1947 he was a soldier, was wounded and taken prisoner of war. From 1947 until his death he worked as a freelancer.

Works can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, in the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin and in the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden . His painting “Evening Landscape” (1948) is in the Neue Meister gallery of the Dresden State Art Collections . The Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library keeps the written estate .
