Life

Richard Paul Evans attended Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City. After graduating from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in 1984 , he worked for an advertising agency. In the early 1990s he wrote a Christmas story for his daughter, for which he could not find a publisher or a literary agent. He self- published the story as a book under the title The Christmas Box in 1993 and it became a regional bestseller. He then sold it himself nationally and after a year it was number 2 on the New York Times bestseller list. As a result, several large publishers became aware of him and the book rights went to Simon & Schuster after a bidding competition for 4.2 million US dollars . In 1995 the book was published as a hardcover, the television film of the same name, Der Ruf des Engels, was broadcast and in 1996 the book was published under the title Die Wundersame Schatulle in Deutschland .
