Richard Richter (conductor)
Richard Richter (* 1892 ; † September 29, 1970 in Hamburg ) was a German conductor .
Life
Richter was a student of Max Reger and Arthur Nikisch and was chief conductor of the Kiel Opera from 1919 to 1926 . He conducted many great works there. Then he went to the smaller Hagen as Kapellmeister to be able to conduct more orchestral concerts and at the same time to escape the pressure of competition from Fritz Stein in Kiel. Richter's successor in Kiel was Eugen Jochum .
In 1933 Richter joined Karl Böhm as first conductor at the Hamburg State Opera . There he worked as an opera conductor and as the conductor of the people's concerts.
He died at the age of 78 after a long illness.
