Richard Rutt
Cecil Richard Rutt ( Korean 노대영 No Tae-yŏng ; born August 27, 1925 in Langford near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire , † July 27, 2011 in Truro ) was a British clergyman, Anglican Bishop of Leicester, Roman Catholic priest and Koreanist .
Life
Rutt was ordained a priest by the Anglican Community in 1952 and served in the mission in South Korea from 1954. He was committed to the Royal Asiatic Society in South Korea and was its president in 1974. In 1972 he published the work "Korean Works and Days: Notes from the Diary of a Country Priest" and further works of Korean studies , such as "Korea: A Historical and Cultural Dictionary " (1999).
In 1966 he was appointed Assistant Bishop in Daejeon of the Anglican Church of South Korea ; In 1968 he became Bishop of Daejeon. In 1973 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Elizabeth II . From 1974 to 1979 he was suffragan bishop in St. Germans and from 1979 to 1991 Bishop of Leicester. In 1985 he became a member of the House of Lords . In 1990 he retired.
He converted to the Roman Catholic Church in 1994 and received the sacrament of ordination on June 8, 1995. He was a pastoral worker in Falmouth Parish. Rutt was an Honorary Canon of Plymouth Cathedral ; In 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed monsignor .
Rutt married Joan Ford in Hong Kong in May 1969.
