Richard Schlemmer

Richard Schlemmer (born March 30, 1893 in Seidau near Bautzen , † February 25, 1946 in the Soviet Union ) was a German writer .

Life

After Schlemmer had attended the spruce school in Bautzen, he learned the profession of lithographer in the printing works of the Weigang brothers. During the First World War he was in the military. In the time that followed, he worked as an amateur actor at the Bautzen City Theater. He later became a technical draftsman at the State Railroad in Dresden and then worked as Reichsbahn chief director at the Reichsbahndirektion Dresden. During the Second World War Schlemmer was drafted again for military service and captured on the Eastern Front . Richard Schlemmer died in 1946 in a prisoner-of-war camp in Russia.

Through his love for the city of Bautzen, he began to be interested in its past and wrote 6 volumes of novels that deal with the history of the city. After immersing himself in old city literature, he was able to incorporate concrete historical facts into his books, which cover the period from 15th to 18th centuries. Century brought to life. Well-known events and characters allow the reader to immerse themselves in this era in real places.

The novels were published from 1928 by "Verlag Peter J. Oestergaard GmbH Berlin Schöneberg". In 2000 the volumes were reissued as a paperback and as a hardback edition as part of the 1000th birthday of the city of Bautzen . The books were printed true to the original in German script at "Lausitzer Druck- und Verlagshaus GmbH Bautzen".
