Richard Stimming (born January 25, 1866 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † September 8, 1936 in Großwusterwitz ) was a German doctor and researcher in prehistory.

Life

Richard Stimming attended the Knight Academy in Brandenburg Cathedral and studied medicine in Berlin. As a doctor of medicine he lived and practiced from 1895 in Großwusterwitz ( Jerichow II district ). Stimming was a member of the Genthiner Verein der Alterthumsfreunde and put together an extensive collection of prehistoric exhibits from the area between the Havel and Elbe . The main sites were clay and gravel pits. For example, many finds come from Lake Pritzerber , the Gallberg near Hohenferchesar or the Butzow district . In total, he examined more than 100 prehistoric sites. He published the results of his work, for example, in Mannus , in the prehistoric magazine and, during this time, frequent home newspapers .

In 1929, the Jerichower Land district museum bought a large part of the collection, which has since been the centerpiece of the museum's prehistoric and prehistoric collection, which includes over 8,000 exhibits. Outstanding pieces are, for example, a grave urn from the 1st and 2nd century from Gallberg with a unique representation of a horse and a Upper Paleolithic or Mesolithic antler pick.
