Richard Suter
Richard Suter (born September 16, 1907 in St. Gallen ; † January 19, 2002 there , reformed , resident in Krummenau and St. Gallen) was a Swiss officer and lawyer .
Life
Richard Suter, son of the lawyer Robert Suter and Emilie nee Schöpf, devoted himself to studying law at the universities of Munich , Zurich , Berlin and Bern after completing his high school diploma , which he obtained in 1932 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed. Professionally, he worked as a lawyer in St. Gallen from 1934 until his retirement in 1989. Richard Suter - himself a talented painter - was a co-founder of the Swiss Institute for Art Studies and became Vice President in 1951of the St. Gallen Art Association . He was a local councilor in St. Gallen and a member of many administrative boards .
At the same time, Richard Suter had a career in the Swiss Army . In 1939 Suter was promoted to general staff officer, from 1945 to 1949 he was chief of staff of the 7th Division and from 1953 to 1956 of the 4th Army Corps. He was in command of the 33rd Infantry Regiment and the 3rd Light Brigade. In 1957 he was appointed brigadier .
Richard Suter - he was married to Hanna Elisabeth, the daughter of Ulrich Eduard Tschanz - died at the age of 95. The musician Robert Suter was his brother.
