Richarda Schmeißer (born August 20, 1954 in Zeitz , after marriage to Richarda Hartmann ) is a former German gymnast who was part of the GDR national team from 1970 to 1975. She started for the SC Chemie Halle .

Career

Richarda Schmeißer moved from Dynamo Zeitz to SC Chemie Halle in 1966. Her first major international appearance was at the 1970 World Cup in Ljubljana, when she won the silver medal behind the Soviet gymnasts with the GDR squad (see picture), in the all-around competition she finished 23rd.

After finishing second on the floor and third on the uneven bars at the GDR championship in 1972, Richarda Schmeißer also took part in the Olympic Games in Munich. The GDR team won silver behind the Soviet squad made up of Irene Abel , Angelika Hellmann, Karin Janz, Richarda Schmeißer, Christine Schmitt and Erika Zuchold. In the all-around competition, Schmeißer took twelfth place, she did not reach a single final.

In 1974 Schmeißer won her first GDR championship on the uneven bars. At the 1974 World Cup in Varna, the GDR squad with Irene Abel, Heike Gerisch , Angelika Hellmann, Bärbel Röhrich , Richarda Schmeißer and Annelore Zinke again won silver behind the Soviet team. In the all-around competition, Schmeißer came in ninth place, on the uneven bars she came in fifth.

In 1975 Richarda Schmeißer won the GDR championship in the all-around and on the uneven bars and took second place on the three other machines. Richarda Schmeißer then took part in the European Championship in Skien together with Annelore Zinke . In the all-around competition, Schmeißer came fourth behind Nadia Comăneci , Nelli Kim and Annelore Zinke. In addition, Schmeißer was able to qualify for all device finals. On the floor, balance beam and uneven bars she took fourth place, in the horse jump she won silver behind Nadia Comăneci.

Although Richarda Schmeißer took second place in the all-around at the GDR championship, she only took part in the 1976 Olympic Games as a substitute gymnast. After her career, the qualified sports teacher worked as a trainer and choreographer at SC Chemie Halle.

In 1972 she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze for her athletic achievements .
