Richard "Richie" Hearn (born January 4, 1971 in Glendale , California ) is a former American automobile racing driver .

Career

In 1994 and 1995 he drove in the American junior series Formula Atlantic , in which he won the title in 1995. In 1996 he drove for Della Penna in both the Indy Racing League and the Champ Car World Series . He finished third at the Indianapolis 500 and at the end of the year won an IRL race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway .

In 1997 he drove exclusively in the Champ Cars for Della Penna and with Budweiser as a well-known sponsor, but could not achieve any significant results. In 2000 he was replaced by Norberto Fontana , who brought more sponsorship money with him. He took part in a few other events of the Indianapolis 500, with sixth place in 2002 as the best result. After the Indianapolis 500 in 2005, he retired from racing as a driver and founded his own racing team, Hearn Motorsports LLC , with which he competed in the Star Mazda Series . For 2006 he planned to start with the team in Formula Atlantic. In 2007 he returned to Indianapolis Motor Speedway and qualified for the Indianapolis 500 in a vehicle that was used jointly by Racing Professionals and Hemelgarn Racing .

After the end of his driving career, he worked as a racing instructor.
