Rick Berman

Richard Keith "Rick" Berman (born December 25, 1945 in New York City ) is an American television producer and screenwriter . He was best known as the producer of numerous Star Trek series and films.

Life

Berman grew up in New York City and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1967 . He then gained his first experience as a producer and director of independent productions. From 1977 he was together with Robert Wiemer producer of the children's series The Big Blue Marble for which he was awarded an Emmy for best children's program.

In 1987, Berman received the post of co-producer of the series Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century at the side of Gene Roddenberry . After Gene Roddenberry's death in 1991, he succeeded him as executive producer and thus took creative control of the Star Trek franchise. In addition to and after The Next Century , he also produced the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Star Trek: Raumschiff Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise as well as the films based on The Next Century . In 2006, Berman was relieved of this task by Paramount , as one blamed him for the falling viewership of Star Trek: Enterprise . After that he no longer appeared as a producer and screenwriter.

He has been married since 1980.

Trivia

In Starship Enterprise: The Next Century , both a shuttle of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) and a Starfleet admiral bear his name.
