Eric Heller

Eric Heller

Eric Johnson Heller (born January 10, 1946 in Washington, DC ) is an American professor of chemistry and physics at Harvard University . Heller is known for his work in time-dependent quantum mechanics .

He did his doctorate in 1973 with William P. Reinhardt at Harvard on the subject of Discrete methods in quantum scattering theory .

In physics he is known for his work in the field of quantum chaos .

Heller is an elected member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science , the National Academy of Sciences , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , the American Philosophical Society and other scientific institutions. In 1987 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . Prior to joining Harvard in 1998, he held faculty positions at the University of Washington , Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the University of California . At Harvard, he was director at the Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics (ITAMP) from 1993 to 1998.

Heller's father was the economist Walter Heller .
