history

The Ridder Arena was in 2002 for 20 million dollars built. It is named after Kathleen and Bob Ridder , who were long-time supporters of ice hockey at the university and donated US $ 500,000 to build the arena. In addition to the ice rink, the building also includes the adjacent Baseline Tennis Center with a total of 22 tennis courts .

The first ice hockey game in the newly built arena took place on October 19, 2002 in front of 3,239 spectators against the huskies of St. Cloud State University . The women's team had previously played their games in the Mariucci Arena . With the Ridder Arena , it was the first women's team in the WCHA to play its games in its own ice rink. The playing field is the size required for the NHL , about 61 meters long and 26 meters wide. The spectator area has almost 3,400 seats, including a club room with 210 seats and nine boxes with 14 seats each. The arena is located next to the Mariucci Arena and is connected to it by an underground tunnel.
