Ridgmont is a locality and civil parish in Bedfordshire in England .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1086 under the name "Segenhoe" in the Domesday Book . The name was a construct that came from the Anglo-Saxon name "Hoh" (for "country") and included the owner of this land, a certain "Segga". Accordingly, "Segenhoe" roughly meant "Seggas Land". The following name "Rugemund", first mentioned in 1227, goes back to the French "rouge mont" ("red mountain"), from which the current name of the place "Ridgmont" is derived over time.

In Ridgmont there was a castle that was first mentioned in 1276 and belonged to a Walter Beywin.

The water supply for the population was initially ensured by wells, in the 20th century a water tower was built south of the church for drinking water supply.

According to the first census, which took place in 1801, Ridgmont had 581 inhabitants at that time. After a jump to 999 inhabitants in 1851, which almost doubled, the number of inhabitants fell to 540 shortly after the turn of the century. After another increase in 1953, when 983 inhabitants were counted, the number fell in 2001 (the last official survey of the population) to 418 people.

Geographically, the village is located in the north and south at about 350  m each , crossed by a valley. Ridgmont is conveniently located off Junction 13 of the M1 and is close to the town of Milton Keynes to the west and Woburn to the southwest.
