Riebiņi is a place in southeast Latvia and the center of the district of the same name (Riebiņu novads).

history

The place developed around an estate since the 18th century . In the 19th century Jews settled here, who made up 91% of the population at 533 in the 1897 census.

The extensive complex of buildings on the estate stood empty at the end of the 19th century and was then made available to various visual artists as a place to relax by the philanthropist Jevgenia Kerbedza. The painter Konrad Krzyżanowski and some of his students stayed here several times with others .

After 1920 a school was established here. In 1945 Riebiņi received a local council. The community was established in 1990, including some collective farms .
