Riedern am Sand is a district of the municipality of Klettgau im Klettgau in the district of Waldshut . It consists of Ober- and Unterriedern. The addition "on the sand" refers to the occurrence of barley sand , which is exposed in the sand pit Riedern am Sand .

history

The remains of Neukrenkingen Castle can still be found on the Schloßbuck . 1305 the place is mentioned in the Fürstenberg document book. Until 1806 he was part of the Schwarzenberg rule and then came to the Grand Duchy of Baden . On August 1, 1971, the previously independent village of Riedern am Sand became part of the municipality of Klettgau as part of the Baden-Württemberg regional reform .

economy

In Riedern am Sand there was once a quartz plant for the extraction of quartz sand, mainly for plastering work (throwing a trowel), but also for sand casting . The sand pit opens up the barley sands of the Upper Freshwater Molasse . In addition to the well-known fossils such as shark teeth, the sands also contain bean ore . In the entire Klettgau and Randen area , the ore was extracted from nests that had formed in the limestone by washing. The bean ore is similar in appearance to black beans, hence the name "Bohnenviertel", which is still used today for the area around Grießen.
