Ruth Blum

Ruth Blum (born September 2, 1913 in Wilchingen , Canton Schaffhausen , † August 2, 1975 in Schaffhausen ) was a Swiss author and teacher .

Life

Ruth Blum was the daughter of a master tailor. She grew up in Klettgau and began studying pedagogy , which she broke off. She then worked in various jobs, including as a maid , saleswoman and cleaning lady ; in addition, she provided journalistic articles for Swiss newspapers. With her first novel Blue Sky - Green Earth , which was based on her childhood and youth experiences in Klettgau, she achieved a success with the readership. However, after she had not succeeded in making writing her livelihood with the following works, she completed a second attempt at the teachers' college in Schaffhausen in 1949/50. From 1951 to 1961 she worked as a primary school teacher in Schaffhausen . She retired early because of cancer . In the following years she was active again in literature and wrote a number of successful, autobiographical books.

Ruth Blum's work includes novels and short stories . Among other things, she received the literary prize of the city of Schaffhausen in 1955 , a total works prize from the Swiss Schiller Foundation (3,000 francs ) in 1965 and the Georg Fischer Prize in 1971 .
