Ruins of the Allerburg: seat of the Rieme family

Belt or belt is the name of an old noble family from Lower Saxony in the south-western Harz foreland and in the Untereichsfeld .

history

The aristocratic family of the Rieme family (they did not call themselves "von") was enfeoffed early on in the Ellertal in the southwestern Harz foreland and later in the Untereichsfeld. In the first few centuries they changed their name several times or were directly related to those of Minnigerode , von Bockelnhagen and von Esplingerode .

They lived on the Allerburg , whose judicial district included the places Silkerode , Bockelnhagen , Weilrode , Zwinge , Kirchdorf , Mönherode, Hochstedt, Besselhagen and Neue Hof. It was first mentioned in 920 with Burckhard Rieme or Corregia in the time of King Heinrich I.

The feudal lordship was disputed as early as the 14th century, initially between the Counts of Hohnstein and Kurmainz , the former placing the castle on the Landgrave of Hesse as overlord. After the dynasty of the Counts died out, the inheritance went to the Counts of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen .

The family was able to expand its influence and acquire additional possessions beyond their judicial district. They were particularly connected to the neighboring Pöhlde monastery , made many donations to the monastery and numerous family members were buried there. After the family branch died out, the goods and all related rights came to those of Minnigerode.

In 1355 and 1393, however, the nobleman Hans Ryme von der Allerburg was mentioned several times as a witness or mediator in documents. In the 16th century a grave slab of Heidenreich IV. Rieme von Allerberg was found and inserted into the wall of the church in Kirchdorf.
