Riemer Park

The Riemer Park (also known as the Riem Landscape Park ) is an approx. 210 hectare landscape park in the Messestadt Riem district of Munich on the site of the former Munich-Riem Airport . It was planned by the French landscape architect Gilles Vexlard, and it was built from 1997 to 2005 with a budget of 70.5 million euros.

The artificial 10-hectare Riemer See is part of the park. Two up to 20 meter high artificial viewing and tobogganing hills were made from the demolition material from the former airport. The Riemer Wald is located a little northeast of this hill.

The 2005 Federal Garden Show took place on the site and in the immediate vicinity . That is why the park is also known under the name BUGA Park .

In 2005 he received the German landscape architecture award . After the Federal Horticultural Show, it was opened to the public as a recreation area as the third largest park in the state capital of Munich.

Since 2012, the Riemer Park has been hosting the Munich best-time marathon every year on the last Sunday in October to change to winter time , starting at midnight.
