Balderich lived on Rügen and was annoyed that he always had to wade through the sea when he wanted to go to the mainland in Pomerania . He filled his apron with earth to make a dam to the mainland (the first Strelasund crossing, so to speak ). A hole tore his apron between Rothenkirchen and Götemitz, and the earth he lost became the nine mountains near Rambin . He plugged the hole and went on, but another hole tore in Gustow's apron and thirteen little mountains fell out. With the remaining earth he went to the sea and poured it into it. This created the Drigge peninsula, jutting out into the Strelasund , but it didn't quite reach the mainland. Balderich was so annoyed about it that he suffered a stroke and died.

Balderich is said to have thrown the giant stone near Nadelitz in its current location. He wanted to throw the stone from Putbuser Tannenberg at the church in Vilmnitz in order to destroy it, but the stone slipped and flew too far.
