The Rietburgbahn is a chair lift which in the district Southern Weinstrasse ( Rheinland-Pfalz ) above the Palatine municipality Rhodt the ruins of from the Middle Ages derived Rietburgbahn goes up.

The valley station of the Rietburgbahn is about 300 m above sea level at Villa Ludwigshöhe Castle . It can be reached on foot or by car. The extensive signposting ( Autobahn 65 , Bundesstrasse 38 ) leads through the nearby town of Edenkoben .
The mountain station is located a few meters north of the Rietburg. This stands at a height of 535 m on the northeast flank of the 618 m high Blättersberg , which belongs to the Haardt , which in turn forms the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest . A restaurant, the Höhengaststätte Rietburg , is built into the castle ruins . There is a game reserve nearby, the largest of which is fallow deer .

The chairlift, a circulating cable car with two-seater pendants, was built in 1954 as the first such facility in Rhineland-Palatinate. The almost 1 km long route runs from east to west through the forest in which beech and sweet chestnuts dominate. The striking aisle , which can also be seen from a great distance , is open to the Rhine plain . The route is accompanied, sometimes also crossed, by a hiking path that is marked with a red dot and which serpentines enable an ascent to the castle in around 45 minutes.
In both directions, the Rietburgbahn overcomes a height difference of 220 m in about eight minutes, with the mean height of the chairs above ground being three to four meters. In some places, especially when red sandstone cliffs rise from the slope, this distance is also not reached. During the ascent, passengers look down into the forest and up towards the castle, while the descent offers a wide view of the Rhine plain several hundred meters below. Night lampion rides are also offered for the castle festival in July / August .
