Rifāʿīya

The Rifāʿīya ( Arabic الطريقة الرفاعية, DMG aṭ-ṭarīqa ar-rifāʿīya , also Rufaiyya or Rufai ) or Rüfai is an Islamic Sufi order ( Tarīqa ), which was founded by the well-known Muslim mystic Ahmed Rifai (1118–1181).

In the West, the order is also known under the name "the howling dervishes" because of the ecstatic dhikr . For the rhythmic accompaniment of the dhikr they use the flat kudüm kettle drum , the large frame drum mazhar and cymbals zil .

Most of the followers of the Rifai Order can be found in the Middle East , Turkey and the Balkans . The Rüfai-Tekke from 1785 is located in the Albanian city ​​of Berat .
