The Rifugio Federico Chabod (Italian) or Refuge Frédéric Chabod (French) is a refuge in the Graian Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2750 m slm within the municipality of Valsavarenche in the side valley of the same name in the Aosta Valley in northwestern Italy . The hut, which opened in 1985, is used as a base for climbing the Gran Paradiso (or Grand Paradis ) and is managed in the ski touring season from mid-March to early May and in the summer season from mid-June to mid-September. During this time it offers 85 beds. During the rest of the year, mountaineers can use the winter room with 16 camps.
The hut is named after Federico Chabod , an Italian historian who comes from the Valsavarenche Valley and who campaigned for its autonomy in the 1940s .
rise
The ascent to the hut begins in Pravieux, a district of Valsavarenche at 1834 m , at a car park. The path leads east up the slope in many bends, first through sparse forest and later over meadows and moraine terrain . For the ascent from Pravieux, which does not show any technical difficulties, 2½ hours are estimated.
