Since April 1985, a monthly gay city magazine has been published in Cologne under the name rik . The title rik is an acronym for Raus in Köln, the original title of the paper.
The rik is available free of charge in North Rhine-Westphalia , its content covers Cologne and the Rhineland and has a circulation of around 18,000 copies.
The magazine was developed in 1985 by activists from the Cologne gay and lesbian center and was initially published by the Emanzipation eV association, which ran the center. From 1998 to July 2012 the rik was published by MATTEI Medien GmbH. In July 2012, the DAA Deutsche Audio Agentur GmbH, based in Berlin, took over the title. Its managing director is the publisher of the nationwide gay magazine blu. The editors-in-chief of rik were Lutz van der Horst and Thomas Habke (1998 to 2000), Björn Reinfrank (2000 to 2006) and Torsten Bless (up to the April 2012 edition).
The business premises have been in the Friesenviertel in Cologne for several years.
Along with the magazines EXIT (Ruhr and Münster), GAB (Frankfurt and Rhine-Main / Neckar), hinnerk (Hamburg), Leo (Munich) and Victory Column (Berlin) has become the rik in July 2007 for gay magazines composite Publigayte together . Since January 1, 2013 rik, EXIT belong to the association and no longer stated.
In 2012 GAB (Frankfurt and Rhein-Main / Neckar) and rik merged with the blu media group from Berlin.
