Riku Kekkonen (born November 18, 1985 ) is a former Finnish floorball player .
Career
society
Kekkonen started his career with the Westend Indians from Espoo.
Helsingfors IFK
For the 2002/03 season he was used for the first time in the team of Helsingfors IFK. During the season he played two games in the shirt of the capital city. The rest of the season he played in the U21 team.
In the following season he was integrated into the first team squad. In 25 games he scored eight goals and nine assists. Despite its 17 points scorer, the team could not qualify for the playoffs with 25 points.
2004/05 played 18 games, but could still achieve 11 points scorer. After the season, the club announced the departure of the offensive player.
TPS Salibandy
Only a little later, TPS announced that Kekkonen would play for the team from Turku in the second-highest Finnish league for the coming season . In his first season at TPS, he scored 33 goals in 27 games and put on 29 more goals. With his numerous goals he played a major role in the club's rise to the Salibandyliiga .
In the top division he then scored 19 goals and ten assists, which made him the top scorer. At the same time, the team managed to qualify for the playoffs with 6th place. In the quarter-finals, however, TPS lost 3-2 to SC Classic in the series.
In his third season he was able to build on his strong performances and improve his goal yield. His team reached second place in the regular season, but surprisingly failed in the playoffs at the seventh-placed team FT Trackers from Hämeenlinna .
Chur floorball
On April 14th 2009 Chur Unihockey announced that Kekkonen and his teammate from TPS Kari Koskelainen will tackle the 2009/10 season in Chur. He played 30 games for Chur in the 2009/10 season and scored 28 goals. He also prepared 25 more goals, mainly for Koskelainen. Kekkonen reached seventh place with Chur floorball, which entitles them to participate in the playoffs. In the quarter-finals, however, he failed with Chur at HC Rychenberg Winterthur .
TPS Salibandy
After only one season he left the club back to Turku . The 2010/11 season he took on again at TPS Salibandy. After the regular season they reached the 11th final rank. He only managed five goals and two assists in 18 games. He and his team improved in the 2011/12 season. He did not score more goals, 5 in number, but put on significantly more goals. At the end of the season he barely missed the playoffs with TPS Salibandy.
SSV Helsinki
In the coming season, the SSV Helsinki announced the signing of the striker. At that time he signed a two-year contract. With his new club reached the playoffs in the Salibandyliiga for the third time in his career. During the regular season he scored 15 goals and contributed 16 assists for the SSV. In the playoffs he scored nine more points scorer. He qualified with SSV Helsinki for the final of the Salibandyliiga 2012/13. In this he was defeated with Helsinki in three games and was runner-up.
Chur floorball
His performances in Helsinki did not go unnoticed by top clubs from abroad. On July 10th, 2014 Chur Unihockey announced the return of the Finn. With the Churern he was able to secure fourth place in the regular season. In the playoffs, however, Chur floorball was already defeated in the quarter-finals floorball Köniz . During his season in Chur, he scored 43 points and collected six 2-minute penalties. After the strong performances from the season, Chur Unihockey made him a new contract offer, which he ultimately turned down.
SV Wiler-Ersigen
Only a little later, the SV Wiler-Ersigen announced the commitment of the center. He signed a two-year contract with SVWE. Wiler-Ersigen qualified with Kekkonen in second place for the playoffs, in which they surprisingly failed due to the UHC Alligator Malans .
Grasshopper Club Zurich
On May 9, 2016, Grasshopper Club Zurich announced the transfer of the Finn. He received a one-year contract with an option for another season. On February 25, 2017, he was able to celebrate the first title of his career with the GC's cup win. After the 2016/17 season, Kekkonen announced his retirement as a player.
National team
Kekkonen was first used for the Finnish national team on February 7, 2009 in a friendly against Sweden. With Finland he took part in the Euro Floorball Tour 2009 and a 4-country tournament. He played a total of seven games for the national team.
