Floorball Köniz is a Swiss Floorball Association , which in the top Swiss league of men, the National League A , plays along. Floorball Köniz was founded in 1998 through a club merger and is Swiss champion (2018), three-time cup winner (1999, 2008 and 2016) and three-time vice-Swiss champion (2008, 2013 and 2016).

history

UHC Köniz (predecessor club)

From a group of colleagues who played street hockey in their parents' backyards before the club was founded, the UHC TLS Köniz was founded on October 18, 1984 on the initiative of father Othmar and son Beat Gross. After the first team had played in the NLB as well as in the NLA since the club was founded, the club officials turned their attention to the promotion of young talent as a cornerstone for a return to the NLA. Participation in international tournaments should bring the club further experience in the sport of college hockey. In the chronology the constancy of the UHC Köniz comes to the fore. The first team has been one of the top teams in Swiss floorball since the club was founded.

Floorball Köniz

On March 27, 1998, the merger between the two clubs UHC Köniz and UHC Lerbermatt Köniz was completed to form the new Floorball Köniz club, which had been prepared for two years. In the meantime, a third association (UFG Köniz; floorball fusion community) has been founded to outsource the juniors for optimal preparation. The association was led by the former presidents Walter Gerber and Fabian Trees. On March 20, 1999, Floorball Köniz was the first NLB team to win the cup final in the Zurich Saalsporthalle against the Hornets Bülach (NLA) and became the men's cup winner . On April 17, 1999, the team decided the second promotion play-off game for themselves and rose to the NLA. Floorball Köniz did not lose a competitive game during the 1998/99 season.

In the 1999/2000 season, the club played its first NLA season. This began with an away game against UHTzaeziwil (4-0) and ended with a win against Torpedo Chur. The intended league preservation was achieved with the seventh final rank. The elite juniors rose to the top division. In the following season floorball Köniz reached the play-offs of the best four for the first time and was eliminated from the title race against the champions UHC Rot-Weiss Chur. The B-Juniors became vice Swiss champions and the C-Juniors Swiss champions.

In the 2001/02 season, the team did not manage to achieve the consistency of the previous season and ended the season in sixth place after the intermediate round. The René Berliat era came to an end with his involvement in Sweden. Johan Östman became his successor. The women were promoted to the NLB in three games thanks to a goal. The B-Juniors won the bronze medal. One season later, the men's first team reached the play-off semi-finals and the cup finals (Floorball Köniz - UHC Rot Weiss Chur 5: 6 a.d.), the elite juniors won the championship, the B-Inter also won the C1 - Juniors took part in the finals. The women managed to get into the NLB league.

In the 2003/04 season, the team under coach Johan Östman reached the play-off semi-finals and was eliminated against champions SV Wiler-Ersigen in three games 6: 4/7: 2/5: 4. The elite juniors won the championship. The women finished the season in the NLB in eighth place. In the following season, the team of coach Patrick Pons failed to qualify for the final round in the 18th game against Langnau (back then under the name zzawil-Gauchern) (FBK: zziwil-gauchern 8: 9 nV). The elite juniors became Swiss champions. The women finished the season in ninth place and were relegated to the first division.

In the 2005/06 season, the men finished seventh in the first season under the old and new coach Berliat, who initiated the development of a new team, and missed the qualification for the final round. The elite juniors won the Swiss championship for the fourth time in a row. The women finished the 1st league season in first place and went straight to the NLB. In the following season David Blomberg won the scorer ranking with 64 points and led the team into the final round, in which they missed the play-offs in fifth place with nine points behind. The U21s were eliminated in the play-off semifinals against the future champions ( Chur Unihockey ). The women finished the season in second place.

In the 2007/08 season, the men's team under head coach René Berliat qualified for the play-off semi-finals (against the Floorball Tigers ). The Könizer prevailed with 3-1 victories and qualified for the final against SV Wiler-Ersigen , in which they lost 3-1 victories. In the cup, the team reached the final and defeated SV Wiler-Ersigen 4: 3 and won the Swiss Cup for the second time. The U21s were eliminated as qualifying winners in the playoff semifinals against SV Wiler-Ersigen. The women were relegated to the first division. After the end of the season, the club's finances were successfully restructured. With the departure of David Blomberg at the end of 2007/08, Daniel Calebsson was the only foreign player to remain . In the 2008/09 season, the playoffs of the top four were again reached.

With the young David Jansson , a Swedish head coach was committed again for the 2009/2010 season. He was assisted by Christian Wahli , who in turn, as head coach, won the Swiss championship title several times with the U21 juniors. Due to a change of mode on the part of Swiss Unihockey , playoff quarter-finals were held for the first time in a best-off 7 series after the regular season, which was clearly lost against the Floorball Tigers . The same fate happened a season later, when Floorball Koeniz played as the only team without foreign reinforcements. David Jansson then returned to Sweden as head coach of Pixbo Wallenstam IBK , while Christian Wahli took over his inheritance and was promoted to head coach. Under the leadership of René Berliat , the U21 juniors were deservedly Swiss champions.

The first season was quite successful for the new coach Christian Wahli as well as Emanuel Antener and Fredrik Djurling, who were transferred from AIK Stockholm to Köniz . They finished the regular season in 4th place. In the playoffs, however, the quarter-finals were the final destination, this time Alligator Malans lost in the series 1: 4. The U21 juniors were able to confidently defend the championship title. In the 12/13 season, the playoff trauma should be finally defeated. The regular season was again finished in 4th place. After two 4-2 series wins against the Unihockey Tigers and GC Unihockey, they were first defeated by Alligator Malans and thus ended an extremely successful season as runner-up. A Czech head coach was hired for the first time for the 2013/2014 season. Tomas Trnavasky took over the heavy legacy from successful coach Christian Wahli.

Floorball Köniz won the qualification in the 2015/16 season. In Bern, the qualifying winner of the current championship in the cup final secured his first title win since 2008 with an undisputed victory over the Grasshoppers. The game ended with 7-3 for the Bernese.

The 2016/2017 season was not as good as last season. Because the Bernese only finished the qualifying round in 6th place and had to face the Swiss champions GC Unihockey in the play-off quarter-finals . Floorball Köniz won the first game of the Best-Of-7 series, but in the end had to admit defeat 2: 4 and was thus already out in the quarter-finals. And in the cup, too, things didn't go as hoped for the Bernese. They couldn't convince and lost in the quarterfinals 4-5 to UHC Alligator Malans .

After René Berliat's resignation after the 2017/18 season, his successor Jyri Korsman was announced on January 23, 2018 . Renà Berliat qualified for the superfinal in his last season with Floorball Köniz. His team won this 5-2 over SV Wiler-Ersigen and thus won the first championship in the club's history.
