Hesiodus is an impact crater in the southwest of the front of the moon on the southern edge of the Mare Nubium , immediately west of the Pitatus crater .
The rim of the crater is badly eroded, the interior is flooded with lava and is flat. The Rima Hesiodus begins north-west of the edge and ends in a south-westerly direction in the Palus Epidemiarum north of Capuanus .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the ancient Greek poet Hesiod .
