Inscription with the name Rimuš

Rimuš was from 2283 to 2274 BC. BC ( middle chronology ) or 2219 to 2210 BC BC (short chronology) King of Akkad and the son of Sargon of Akkad and Tašlultum .

Surname

The name Rimuš (transcribed: Rīmuš) means "his wild bull". It is a short form of the name with the presumed meaning "(The king [ssohn] is) his (= Ilabas , or you = Ištars ) wild bull".

Dating

So far it has been assumed that Rimuš, the younger brother of Maništušu , ruled first. An original III version of the so-called “Sumerian King List”, published in 2003, makes a reverse order very likely. The naming of the exact numbers of those killed and captured by Naram-Sin , introduced under Rimuš , also suggests that such mentions are missing under Maništušu. The dates of the reigns reflect the new knowledge.

history

Under Rimuš, inscriptions show the emerging instability in the kingdom of Akkade , which tell of fighting against the cities of Adab and Zabalam south of Nippur . Also Kazallu between Kish and Nippur, rose up against him.

"War reporting" becomes unusually precise under him; 12,052 slain and 5,862 prisoners are named after the Kazallu uprising has been put down.

Conquered areas in Elam and in the highlands of the Zagros Mountains also had to be defended. A campaign against the Abalgamas of Parahsum is won. In this context, numerous deportations took place that were supposed to calm the situation in the various parts of the country. Numerous prisoners were sent to labor camps; it is estimated that a third of the male workforce was lost to the cities as a result.

After the uprisings in the country were initially put down, Rimuš mentions that he now holds the upper ( Mediterranean ) and lower ( Persian Gulf ) and mountains firmly in hand for the god Enlil . The quiet did not last long, however, because Rimuš was murdered after only nine years. Naram-Sin , the son of Maništušu , took over the successor.
