Bruising on the ear is usually painless; Because of the possible long-term effects, one should nevertheless consult a doctor even with small, only palpable hematomas . Small swellings are usually treated with a pressure bandage or puncture , larger swellings require surgery.
Bruises are the result of violence such as blows to the ear or sharp kinking of the auricle. People who practice sports such as judo , wrestling , Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), rugby , wrestling , boxing or mixed martial arts (MMA) are particularly affected .
A cauliflower ear can also develop from polychondritis .
