Ringspann is a German group of companies with headquarters in Bad Homburg , which was founded in 1944. It has nine production plants in Germany and abroad and employs around 480 people in 17 companies.

Companies

Ringspann is a manufacturer and supplier of freewheels, industrial brakes, shaft-hub connections, overload clutches, shaft clutches as well as precision clamping tools and remote controls for industrial applications. The company has over 6,000 customers worldwide in the fields of gear manufacturing, engine construction, conveyor technology, rail technology, aviation technology , vehicle construction, mining, mining technology, power generation, manufacturing technology, machine tool construction, food technology, packaging technology, marine technology, printing and paper technology as well as general mechanical and plant engineering. The company is the international market leader in the field of freewheel technology. The range of services extends from advice to design and development to the manufacture of ready-to-install components and systems for industrial drive technology and metal-cutting.

Products

Ringspann's main product range is industrial drive technology and extends over seven product groups. These are in detail:

Freewheels

Freewheels are clutches that work in only one direction of rotation. Depending on the design, they are used as overrunning clutches, indexing freewheels and backstops. As backstops in gears or conveyor systems, they prevent unwanted rotary movements against the operating direction of rotation; In the overtaking function, they couple the power units of the drive trains in and out depending on the torque; In the feed function, they translate linear back and forth movements into incremental rotary movements. The range from Ringspann includes freewheels in all important designs for nominal torques from 100 to 1,230,000 Nm: Complete sprag and roller freewheels with their own bearings for the inner ring and outer ring, slow-running backstops, encapsulated housing freewheels with integrated function monitoring systems (condition monitoring), basic freewheels, Built-on freewheels and built-in freewheels without their own bearings as well as cage freewheels and load torque locks .

Industrial brakes

The company's industrial brakes are used as stop and emergency brakes that bring rotating shafts, disks and rollers to a standstill, as control brakes to maintain tensile forces and torques, and as holding brakes for shafts. Typical areas of application are the drive systems of conveyor belts , packaging systems, stranding machines and food technology machines. The range includes all types and sizes that are important in machine and plant engineering today: Pneumatic brake calipers, hydraulic disc brakes , electromagnetic brake calipers, electro- hydraulic disc and drum brakes as well as manual brake calipers and clamping units. Control systems, hydraulic units, pneumatic boxes, transformers and friction block wear monitoring are also part of the range. The RIngspann range of industrial brakes includes braking torques from 10 to 325,000 Nm.

Shaft-hub connections

The company's shaft-hub connections are based on the frictional locking principle and are largely standardized construction elements for connecting shafts and hubs. They enable the transmission of torques of up to 4,225,000 Nm as well as axial forces, lateral forces and bending moments. The range includes external clamping shrink disks for backlash-free fastening of hollow shafts or hubs on shafts, internal clamping cone clamping elements for backlash-free connection of hubs on shafts, internal star washers for backlash-free fastening of hubs on shafts with simultaneous frequent clamping and loosening, clamping systems for the frictional connection of torque motors with machine shafts as well as star springs and ball bearing compensating disks, which serve as precision mechanical pressure elements and pressure springs to compensate for play in ball bearings.

Overload clutches

Overload clutches are mechanical safety assemblies that separate an output from the drive when a previously set limit torque - the disengagement force - is reached . In this way, you prevent breakdowns, machine damage and downtime due to overloads. The company offers positive and frictional overload clutches in various designs: as torque limiters, slip hubs or force limiters for adjustable limit and slip torques from 6.0 to 140,000 Nm.

Shaft couplings

Shaft couplings are not switchable couplings. They serve as rigid, torsionally rigid or elastic connecting elements between the shafts and the components of a drive train. The RIngspann range of shaft couplings includes rigid flange couplings and cone clamping couplings, torsionally rigid tooth couplings, multi-disc couplings and compensating couplings as well as torsionally flexible steel band couplings, pin couplings and claw couplings. These shaft couplings cover nominal torques from 2.0 Nm to 1,299,500 Nm across all types.

Precision clamping tools

Clamping tools are devices and assemblies for producing non-positive connections between a tool and a workpiece to be machined or a processing machine and a tool or between different functional units of a machine. Depending on the design, the company's precision clamping tools are used for internal and external clamping of components with cylindrical internal or external surfaces as well as for clamping cylindrical machine parts. The precision chucks and precision mandrels are complete clamping tools for self-construction as well as for the implementation of individual clamping principles. They are primarily used in gear manufacturing, in the automotive industry and in aircraft construction in the context of gear technology. The company offers clamping couplings designed for clamping the printing cylinders of printing machines and for clamping the rotary / tilting tables in multi-axis machining centers.

Remote controls

Remote confirmations are mechanically acting push-pull cables for the bidirectional transmission of forces between spatially separated and stationary components. They enable the flexible separation of the connection between input and output force. Remote controls are used to implement maintenance-free and safe operating and actuating devices. They are suitable for the transmission of high loads, for laying in very small bending radii and for continuous use at temperatures from −50 ° C to +100 ° C. The cable systems have spiral-shaped flat wire armouring, PTFE-coated cores and inner tubes in the guide hose. Depending on the design, they transmit compressive forces of up to 3,150 N and tensile forces of up to 4,500 N. The range includes bidirectional push-pull cables, conventional Bowden cables and operating units such as regulating and adjusting levers and accelerator pedal systems.

Markets

Ringspann maintains a technically diverse range of suppliers ( one-stop shop ) for components of industrial drive technology and clamping technology, which are used in many branches and key industries. These are primarily the construction of industrial gear units and geared motors , conveyor technology, rail technology, aviation technology , vehicle construction, mining and assembly technology, machine tool construction, food technology, packaging technology as well as energy generation and power plant construction, marine technology, electromobility , printing, paper technology and mechanical and plant engineering.

history

Ringspann GmbH was founded on January 1, 1944 as a joint venture between the Torpedo-Werke and the engineer Albrecht Maurer in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe. It initially primarily manufactured chucks, mandrels, and slip and protective clutches on the basis of the Ringspann washer developed by Maurer. After Torpedo-Werke left the company in 1953, Albrecht Maurer initially continued to run the company as a sole shareholder. After Karl Stroh Senior joined the company as a partner at the end of 1954, the company received important growth impulses. In the course of the following decades a medium-sized company developed with an increasing number of employees, customers in many key industries and a constantly growing range. The continuous generation of new product solutions based on the company's own development work proved to be decisive for the growth of the company and its transformation into an international group of companies. the continuous expansion of the range of drive technology; and, especially from the 1970s, under the direction of the second generation of management - represented by the managing partners Ruprecht Maurer and Dr. Christof Maurer and the partner Karl Stroh Junior - accelerated international expansion of the company.
