Rio Sakuma ( Japanese 佐 久 間 理 央 , Sakuma Rio ; born April 14, 1997 in Niigata , Niigata Prefecture ) is a Japanese football player .

Career

Rio Sakuma learned to play soccer in the youth team of the Japanese first division club Albirex Niigata in Niigata and in the university team of the Ryūtsū Keizai University . As a youth player, he was loaned to Ryūtsū Keizai Dragons Ryūgasaki for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. With the club from Ryūgasaki he played in the fourth division, the Japan Football League . The central defender signed his first professional contract in 2020 with Albirex Niigata (Singapore) . The club is an offshoot of the Japanese second division club Albirex Niigata and plays in the top Singaporean football league, the Singapore Premier League .
