Rio Torto is a place and a former municipality in Portugal with 473 inhabitants (as of 2011).
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. The current location may have been created in the course of the settlement policy during the Christian Reconquista from the 11th century.
An independent municipality of Rio Torto in the administrative district of Gouveia was documented for the first time in the registers of 1269.
Rio Torto remained an independent municipality in the Gouveia district until it was dissolved with the administrative reorganization in 2013 and merged with Lagosinhos to form the new municipality of Rio Torto e Lagarinhos .

Culture and sights
The megalithic complex Anta da Pedra da Orca , a Neolithic tomb ( Portuguese : Anta ), is the most famous building in the municipality and proves the prehistoric settlement.
The mansion Casa Visconde de Rio Torto was built in the 19th century and is now a registered monument .
The stone bridge Ponte de Rio Torto was built in 1613 by the builder António Francisco from Coja . It is also a listed building.
The parish church Igreja de São Domingos was probably built at the end of the 16th century, the first baptism took place here in 1602.

Rio Torto was a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Gouveia , in the district of Guarda . The community had 473 inhabitants and an area of 8.55 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
The community consisted only of the place of the same name.
As part of the regional reform of September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Rio Torto and Lagarinhos were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Rio Torto e Lagarinhos . Rio Torto is the seat of this newly formed community.
