The Rippon Hills Road is an outback slope in the northwest of the Australian state of Western Australia , in the Pilbara region . It connects Marble Bar Road east of Marble Bar with Telfer Mine Road north of Woodie Woodie Mine .

course

23 km east of Marble Bar, the road branches off from Marble Bar Road (S138) to the east. It runs north of Mount Edgar and crosses several tributaries of the De Gray River . The last of these rivers is the Oakover River . A few kilometers to the east, the road ends at the foot of the Gregory Range , behind which the Great Sand Desert begins.

From here the unpaved Woodie Woodie Road leads south, where it opens up the Woodie Woodie Mine , 43 km south , the Nifty Mine and various gorges on the Oakover River that are well worth seeing. These include the Carawine Gorge , the Upper Carawine Gorge and Running Waters .

To the east-southeast, over the Gregory Range , another unpaved runway leads to the development of the Telfer Mine in the Paterson Range . Telfer Mine Road was built and maintained by the mining company but is open to the public.

Road conditions

The Rippon Hills Road is paved along its entire length and connected to the Great Northern Highway (N1) via the also paved, northern part of Marble Bar Road .
