The Marble Bar Road is a trunk road in the northwest of the Australian state of Western Australia . It connects the southern part of the Great Northern Highway about 4 km east of Newman with the northern part of the same road about 50 km east of Port Hedland . It offers the only access to the gold rush town of Marble Bar , which is connected to the main part of Marble Bar Road by a 9 km long cul-de-sac.

course

The road branches off east of Newman, in the Ophthalmia Range , from the Great Northern Highway (N95) to the north. On her way she crosses the Fortescue River and other, smaller rivers. After 185 km the outback settlement Nullagine is reached, where you can also refuel. The path continues north until after another 91 km the Rippon Hills Road joins from the east.

There the Marble Bar Road turns west and after 23 km reaches Marble Bar, where there is again a refueling facility. 9 km beforehand, the main route branches off to the north, but soon turns to the northwest. After crossing several rivers, east of Port Hedland, it reaches the northern part of the Great Northern Highway (N1), which runs along the coast. There, near the settlement of Strelley , the Marble Bar Road ends.

Road conditions

The first 25 km to the south of the road are paved, then the unpaved part begins. The road is only paved again at the confluence with Rippon Hills Road.
