The Talawana Track is an unpaved outback slope in the center of the Australian state of Western Australia . It connects Marble Bar Road north of Newman with the Gary Highway at Windy Corner .

course

52 km northwest of Newman, the Talawana Track branches off to the east from Marble Bar Road (S138) and now runs the entire route through the small sandy desert . After about 250 km you pass the Rudall River National Park , a junction ( Rudall River Road ) leads into the park and further north to Telfer Mine . The Canning Stock Route can be reached after another 100 km on the Talawana Track at Lake Disappointment . The two roads now run parallel for about 40 km before the Canning Stock Route branches off to the northeast to Kurlawarritji . The Talawana Track ends in Windy Corner on the Gary Highway after another 200 km.

history

Like many other outback tracks, the Talawana Track was built in 1962 by Len Beadell together with his Gunbarrel Construction Party .

Road conditions

The road conditions are very different, some sections are solid and easy to drive on, others are characterized by loose sand or stony sections. The washboard slopes are also typical here . A four-wheel drive vehicle is required to ski on the slope .
