course
The river rises north of the Chichester Range , around 30 kilometers west of the small town of Nullagine and flows first in a northerly direction, west past the town of Marble Bar , to the settlement of Eginbah on Rippon Hills Road . There it turns its course to the northwest through the Gorge Range and flows south of the ghost town of Goldsworthy into the Mulyie Pool and thus into the De Gray River .
The Coongan River does not have water all year round. The city of Marble Bar branches off about 180,000 m³ of water annually from the alluvium of the river. The water quality of the river varies depending on the water level. The turbidity of the river water is 587 Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU), and the average salinity is 100 mg / l.
