Ritter is an impact crater on the Earth's moon near the southwestern edge of Mare Tranquillitatis . It forms a pair of craters with the Sabine crater to the southeast . The edges of the two craters are only separated by a narrow valley a few kilometers wide. Ritter is roughly circular, but shows an irregular outer edge. The inner walls have slipped towards the bottom of the crater. Several low ridges rise in the interior of the crater. The crater is named after the engineer and astrophysicist August Ritter .
In the northwest is the Dionysius crater and to the north-northeast you can see the Arago and Manners craters .
To the northwest of the Ritter crater there is a system of parallel grooves running in a northwest direction , which are called Rimae Ritter after the crater .
