history

The first castle in Bodendorf, which emerged from a monastery, is mentioned in the 12th century, which was probably located in a reservoir. The lords of the Schulenburg were enfeoffed with the estate in 1485 and built a Vorwerk around 1530 . The mansion was built from baroque parts of the forework at the end of the 17th century. Donors were Daniel Ludolph von der Schulenburg and Johanna Susanna von Dieskau . The chapel to the north-west was built in 1709. In 1817 a classical wing was added inside with wall pilasters and garland decoration in stucco . A stair tower in the neo-renaissance and neo- baroque style was built between 1910 and 1920.

The manor remained in family ownership until it was expropriated during the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1946. After the expropriation, the family continued to run the manor as an estate and forest business and stayed in the manor house. The mansion later became a nursing home and was empty after the fall of the Wall . The descendants of the former owners acquired the manor and renovated the manor house and the chapel.
