The Ax is a river in the counties of Devon , Dorset and Somerset in southwest England . It rises northwest of the small town of Axminster in Beaminster in the county of Dorset, flows first west and then south and flows into the English Channel at Axmouth near Seaton . The narrow watercourse is not navigable, boats can only operate in the estuary. There are trout in the river and the occasional salmon.
