The River Bela is a short river in Cumbria , England . Until 1974 the river was in Westmorland .

The river is created by the confluence of the Peasy Beck and Stainton Beck at Overthwaite east of Milnthorpe . The Bela flows in an arc south around Milnthorpe and flows into the mouth of the River Kent .

During the Second World War there was a POW camp on the River Bela ( 54 ° 12 ′ 56.4 ″  N , 2 ° 44 ′ 51.1 ″  W ). The camp was later turned into a prison.
