The Rivière aux Sables is a right tributary of the Rivière Saguenay in the administrative region Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière aux Sables forms one of the two outflows of the Lac Kénogami reservoir . It flows below the Barrage Pibrac-Est and Barrage Pibrac-Ouest dams on the north bank of Lac Kénogami over a distance of 11 km to the north. It flows through Jonquière , which now belongs to the city of Saguenay , and flows into the Rivière Saguenay.
Hydropower plants
There are three dams and associated hydropower plants along the river. In the downstream direction these are:
- Barrage De La Jonquière ( ⊙ ) with 4.5 MW
- Barrage Joseph-Perron ( ⊙ ) with 4.5 MW, renewed in 1996, 30,000 MWh per year
- Barrage Bésy ( ⊙ ) with 18 MW, since 2006, 120,000 MWh per year
