Rivö is an island in the Kattegat belonging to Sweden .

It is located in the Gothenburg archipelago west of Gothenburg in the province of Västra Götalands län and belongs to the municipality of Gothenburg . Rivö is one of the larger islands in the archipelago , but it is uninhabited. The sea area north of the island is named after her as Rivö fjord . South of Rivö is the island of Asperö , west of Brännö . In addition to these larger islands, there are various smaller islands just off the Rivös coast, such as Koggholmen , Långa Rivöskäret and Lerskär . The island consists of a rock formation and has only sparse vegetation. The island extends for about one kilometer both in an east-west direction and in a north-south direction. Diagonally there is an extension of about 1.7 kilometers. Several peninsulas extend into the sea from Rivö. To the north Rivö Brandnäs , east Bringelbärsholmen and south Stämmö . Skutviken Bay is to the south and Aven is to the north.

On the island and the immediately adjacent lake there are 15 monuments designated by the Swedish National Monument Protection Agency, Riksantikvarieämbetet , which indicate in particular that the island was used in prehistoric times.

The ferry routes Göteborg– Kiel and Göteborg– Frederikshavn pass north of Rivö . The ferry sails south from Saltholmen to Asperö norra.
