Roßdorf (Nürtingen)
The Roßdorf is a district of the large district town of Nürtingen in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg and has around 4500 inhabitants.
geography
The Roßdorf is located on a ridge about one kilometer south of the core city of Nürtingen, at the beginning of the Neuffen Valley.
history
The district was created in the early 1960s as a model project for modern urban planning on the drawing board. Features for this prototype project were
- the construction of high-rise buildings to save building space,
- the renunciation of individual heating, the Roßdorf is still supplied by a central heating plant with heat and hot water,
- the abandonment of television antennas in every building, the Roßdorf has a community antenna system (which is now operated by a cable television company),
- Green areas across the entire district with large lawns. This required the construction of underground car parks to create sufficient underground parking spaces.
- intersection-free streets (with one exception, there are no intersections in the entire district, only junctions).
Unlike the districts of Nürtingen which were incorporated in the 1970s and which used to be independent municipalities, the Roßdorf does not have its own local administration with a local council, but belongs administratively to the core city.
Public facilities
The district has two kindergartens , a primary school (Roßdorfschule) with a gym, a community center and a branch of the Nürtingen city library . There is also an ecumenical community center in Roßdorf, the Stephanushaus. It was built jointly by the Protestant and Catholic Church and is operated jointly.
