Rob Mulholland

Rob Mulholland (* 1962 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish furniture designer , sculptor and, in his own words, an environmental artist .

Mulholland studied at Edinburgh College of Art , where he received his diploma in 1986. In 1989 he moved to Edinburgh for an exhibition , but returned to Glasgow in 1990. He designed open space exhibitions and sculptures (including a 100 m long sculpture at the Glasgow Festival, the Tin Man , which consisted of more than 300,000 used beverage cans), furniture and interiors, led working groups at Glasgow schools and the city art center Tramway , but also designed the stage set for an opera performance at the Music Theater in Glasgow. In 1993 he exhibited for the first time in Germany, namely on the occasion of the Bremerhaven exhibition In the Swim under the direction of Helmut Diez . Mulholland tries to mirror the surroundings in his outdoor sculptures or to give the eroding forces the opportunity to change his works. He participated in numerous exhibitions and created sculptures in Korea , France , England , Russia , Germany and the USA , but also in his native Scotland.

In 2013 he erected four steel sculptures on the edge of Loch Earn , Scotland , The Four Seasons . In 2014 he took part in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Legacy Project as Artist in Residence , where he created a 6 m high outdoor statue.

In 2008 he received an award from the Scottish Arts Council . In 2014, he received an award from the Forestry Commission Scotland for his Skytower . In 2015 he received an award from the American National Endowment for the Arts for his installation at Paradise Creek Nature Park in Virginia , which in turn is better known for the Elizabeth River Project there (the Elizabeth River flows into Chesapeake Bay ), a renaturation program based in Norfolk made.
