RoBERT (actually Myriam Roulet ; born October 14, 1964 in Paris ) is a French singer and singer-songwriter . Her lyrics talk about love, childhood and death. Their music often mixes baroque and electronic elements. She is also a dancer and actress.

biography

As a child, Myriam Roulet wanted to be a classical dancer, but due to an illness she had to give it up. As an actress, she decided to pursue a career as a musician in 1989. Her first piece, Elle se promène (She walks), was published in 1990. The accompanying video, which was shot by John Lvoff, was then shown in 1991 on the French television station M6 .

Her second single, Les Jupes (The Skirts) was released in 1992 . In 1993 another piece, Les clichés de l'ennui , was published as well as their first album, Sine , which contains 16 tracks. In the same year she worked with the French musician Jean-François Coen for his first album La Tour de Pise : she sings a duo with him, La Tour de Pise , which received a video made by Michel Gondry (Gondry also had the video from Les Jupes made), and also takes part in the album's choir.

In 1997 her second album Princesse de Rien (Princess of Nothing) was published. That year she met the Belgian writer Amélie Nothomb , who wrote the text L'appel de la succube for her . The play was published in 2000 on the second edition of Princesse de Rien .

In September 2002 RoBERT's third album Celle qui tue (The One Who Kills) was released, on which six texts were written by her friend Amélie. In the same year, the author published her book Robert des noms propres (the German translation was published under the title Im Namen des Lexikons ), which was inspired by RoBERT's life.

In 2004 RoBERT's first compilation Unutma (N'oublie pas) (Unutma [don't forget]) was released, on which there are not only titles from her three albums, but also alternative versions and two new songs: Unutma (a piece she wrote in Turkish sings; the title means: 'Forget') and a duo version of her song Le Prince bleu (The Blue Prince) with the American actress Majandra Delfino . An animation video was shot by Stéphane Rossignol for Le Prince bleu . It won an award for the best special effects at the International Music Video Festival in France.

RoBERT often presents their concerts on small Parisian scenes. In the spring of 2005 a recording of their spectacle was released on September 25, 2004 in La Cigale.

In November 2005, RoBERT 's fourth album, Six Pieds sous terre , was released, with 11 titles written by RoBERT and a cover version by French singer Marie Laforêt , Prière pour aller au paradis (Prayer to walk in paradise). The first single is Personne (Nobody). She got a video from Gabriel Aghion (that was his first music video), the director of Pédale douce and others. A second single, Histoire de loup (Wolf story), a duo with the Russian actor Sascha Burdo (French graphics: Sacha Bourdo), appeared after Personne . On February 5, 2006, RoBERT will have its first concert at the Olympia with a 16-year career.

In 2007 all of her albums were published again by Rue Stendhal. For the first time, all of RoBERT's albums are available at the same time. A video shot by Sylvain Gatelais was released for Histoire de loup . A DVD of their spectacle at Espace Pierre Cardin was published in November 2007 under the title Haute Couture .

On November 17, 2008, their fifth album Sourde et Aveugle (Deaf and Blind) was released, on which there is a cover version of Johnny Hallyday's hit Ma gueule . Three singles were published: Tout est calme (Everything is calm), Le Jardin des roses (The rose garden), a duo with Austyn, and Sorry . Tout est calme and Le Jardin des roses both got a video from Any May ( Sorry , no video).

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of her career, RoBERT was back at the Olympia for the second time on February 5th. 30 songs were sung in two acts: Ange et Démon (Angel and Demon). A DVD was released in August. She is also recording a Russian version of Le Prince bleu with Alina Dunaewskaja (French graphic: Alina Dunaevskaya), singer of the Markize group.

On April 20, 2012, RoBERT's sixth album Nuit Gravement was released. The first single is Skype , a duo with French actor Anthony Delon . At the end of the year Aux Marches du Palais was released , an album in which RoBERT sings ten traditional French children's songs.

In 2013 there were two singles from Nuit Gravement : La Révolution (The Revolution) with a video by Guillaume Rabeyrin and Taste of your tongue (taste of your tongue) with a video by Sylvain Gatelais. She worked with the French group Apoplexie for the song Idole (Idol) from their first album Amen . A video was shot by Jonathan Icher. The group also did a cover of Mylène Farmer 's first track Maman a tort on this album .

In 2014 a new single from Nuit Gravement was released , Débutante (beginner), with a video by Thibaud Boidin. She worked with the French-Australian band Plastic Art Noise for the song With your sad eyes from their first album Like strangers do . The piece got a video shot by Grégory Pierre.
