Robert Bingham
Robert Worth Bingham (born March 14, 1966 in Louisville , Kentucky , † November 28, 1999 in New York City ) was an American writer and co-editor of Open City Magazine and in 1999 founder of Open City Books .
Bingham graduated from the prestigious Brown University in 1988 . He then earned a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University . His fictional and factual texts appeared in The New Yorker , and he worked as a reporter for Cambodia Daily for two years . In 1999 he married. Six months later, at the age of 33, Bingham died of a heroin overdose . In his honor, the PEN American Center donated the $ 25,000 (2016) Robert W. Bingham Prize for work on the second work of a particularly talented literary debutante. Bingham was close friends with the musician Stephen Malkmus ; the song title Church on White refers to Bingham's address in New York City.
