Robert Blinc (born October 31, 1933 in Ljubljana , † September 26, 2011 ibid) was a Slovenian physicist .

Robert Blinc completed his undergraduate studies in 1958 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Ljubljana, and received his doctorate a year later. He then began post-doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . After returning to Slovenia, he continued his work at the Jožef Stefan Institute. In 1970 he became a professor at the University of Ljubljana ; since 2004 he has also been the first dean of the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School .

Professor Blinc was one of the founders of applications of nuclear magnetic resonance to study phase transitions and liquid crystals . He founded NMR / EPR spectroscopy in Slovenia (his first publication on the subject appeared in early 1958) and headed the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Jožef Stefan Institute. From 1990 to 1996 he was President of the AMPERE Groupement for two mandates. He was a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and was its vice-president from October 2, 1980 to May 6, 1999. He was also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and an honorary member of the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers of Slovenia.
